📝 Brief Bio:
Dr. Abdelhamid Benazzouz is a neurophysiologist employed by the Inserm Institute, working at Bordeaux University. He is an expert in the field of neuroscience, and in the brain regions involved in Parkinson’s disease (PD). During his PhD, Dr. Benazzouz was the first to develop deep brain stimulation (DBS) of the subthalamic nucleus (STN) as a therapeutical approach for PD, and he has led the team studying DBS in PD at the University of Bordeaux since 2011. His research group is investigating the role of monoamine neurotransmitters in the pathophysiology of motor and non-motor symptoms of PD. He has published more than 130 research papers in peer-reviewed journals, 26 chapters in scientific textbooks, and more than 80 research contributions at international conferences, international neuroscience schools, and universities. He is internationally ranked among distinguished scholars, with over 22,930 citations of his published work, and an H-Index of 64.
